    Word Power

    Read

Proverbs 18:21, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

    Think

“Words have the power of life and death.”

Think about some of the most influential people who’ve ever walked the planet. People who’ve swayed the masses with powerful speeches for the betterment of society, such as Martin Luther King, Jr.; Abraham Lincoln; and Billy Graham. Conversely, there are those who’ve led millions astray with words, such as Adolph Hitler, Fidel Castro, and Osama Bin Laden.

These two groups of men are polar opposites in heart, motivation, method, and morals, but they do share one common trait — all leveraged their words to change the world…

Words have the ability to develop or destroy, excite or execute, inspire or incinerate. This isn’t just true on a global level; it’s true personally, as well. And when it comes to the backbone of society — the family – words play a significant role, starting with man and wife whose communication style is absorbed and passed down to the next generation.

Humans are the only creatures able to specifically and strategically communicate with words. What we do with this gift is up to us. We can aspire to inspire or set verbal fires. So, as you move through your day, carefully consider the power behind what you say. Seek to influence others for good and give thanks to God for this most amazing gift!

    Act

Do a conversational audit of the words you have shared over the last 24 hours. Do you see a trend of words that build others up? Or, are too many of those words tearing others down? Begin to shift your language and your speech patterns to bring joy, purpose, and direction to the people around you.

    Pray

God, Thank You for the ability to communicate through words. Help me to make the most of this gift each day, as I aspire to inspire for good and encourage others. Amen.
