Matthew 7:13-14,
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
Think
In today's passage, Jesus describes two different roads: one wide and heavily traveled, the other narrow and taken by few. As we reach this fork in the road of life every person is given the opportunity to decide whether they'll take the path leading to a Christ-filled eternity or the road to destruction. It seems that given the option, the narrow road might be the obvious choice, but unfortunately, Jesus says, "only a few find it." Does this mean it's difficult to
become a Christian? No. Jesus is the gateway to salvation for all who believe he died for the forgiveness of our sins and rose again. But it
does mean that those who deny him in this life will be denied eternal life in the next. This is a hard truth many people don't want to believe, but there's only
one way to get to heaven – through Christ! Again, it's our decision which road to take. Choosing to walk with Jesus is by no means easier or more comfortable. But, it does give us confidence in knowing that it ultimately leads to an eternity spent face-to-face with our Heavenly Father.
Act
Scripture says Jesus will know his followers by the fruit they bear. Take a moment to honestly evaluate which road you've taken. Are you following the crowd or are you a devoted follower of Christ? Do you think other people in your life would agree with your assessment?
Pray
Dear God, thank you for loving me and leading me along the path of life. Help me to obey your commands and live a life that's pleasing to you! I'm so grateful for all you have done for me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
