    Track Record Trust

    Read

Matthew 8:5-8,10, "When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, asking for help. ‘Lord,' he said, ‘my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.' Jesus said to him, ‘Shall I come and heal him?' The centurion replied, ‘Lord, I do not deserve to have You come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.' ... When Jesus heard this, He was amazed and said to those following him, ‘Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.'"

    Think

You exercise faith every day. When you enter a restaurant, you are confident that they serve food. Driving a car takes confidence to know it'll safely get you to where you need to go. Shopping online requires trust that your stuff will arrive as promised. It's easy to put our faith in things that have a proven track record. Then why is it so difficult, at times, to put our faith in God when the going gets tough?

In today's reading, Jesus commended a Roman soldier from an idol-worshiping culture for having greater faith than any of "God's people." After saying this to His disciples, surely you could hear crickets! Why? Because such faith should stop us in our tracks and cause us to reflect on our own faith!

As we find ourselves riding the waves of uncertainty like we are today, we have a choice: we can have centurion-like faith, or we can succumb to the fear and doubt that stymies us from making forward progress.

So, if Jesus was speaking about you, right now, which would you prefer Him to say: "You of little faith," as He often said to His disciples, or "Well done, my good and faithful servant"? It's time for some "track record" trust!

    Act

Set a reminder every day this week that says, "God, I trust you with _________." When the reminder comes up, stop and fill in the blank with what you are facing in that moment. Then choose to believe God will help with whatever you are facing.

    Pray

God, You are the definition of "proven track record." I trust You with every aspect of my life. When I begin to doubt or give in to fear, give me faith to open my heart and allow You to do what only You can do. In Jesus' name, Amen.
