    The Secret

    Philippians 4:12, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

    Famous chefs are known for having secret recipes. Although their signature dishes are meant to be shared, they don’t always want to divulge the list of special ingredients that make them so delicious.

    However, some of the best secrets in life are meant to be shared! Such as the special ingredients discovered by the apostle Paul for true contentment and satisfaction. Like many of us, Paul lived through times of abundance and times of want. He discovered that, through it all, he wasn’t satisfied by having much, and he wasn’t dissatisfied by having little. The only thing that could bring lasting contentment to his life was his relationship with Christ. He learned that, regardless of prosperity or poverty, gratitude and daily dependence on God were crucial for living an effective and meaningful life.

    Are you satisfied? Have you found contentment regardless of your circumstances? In addition to the attitude of gratitude that we discussed yesterday, you must also trust in God to provide everything you need. That’s when you will experience unexplainable peace, regardless of what you do or don’t have.

    Act

    When you find your contentment being disrupted by worry, whisper a quick prayer of “God, I trust you with ___________. Please give me wisdom.”

    Pray

    Dear Lord, Thank You for all You’ve provided me. Regardless of the circumstances, I know that You always have my best interest in mind. Help me to recognize this when I feel overwhelmed by my daily struggles. In Christ, I can — and will — be content and truly satisfied. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
