    The Lord’s Supper

    Read:

Luke 22:19-20, “And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.’”

    Think:

Most of us can think back and remember a really special gift that someone gave us. Chances are, you can recall that feeling of excitement you had at that moment you received it. And if given the chance, you probably still enjoy re-telling the story. It’s special because of the joy you felt and the sacrifice that someone made for you.

Jesus has given us each a special gift. No other gift can outweigh the importance and sacrifice of His death on the cross. It is more than we could ever have hoped for or imagined. This gift covers us with grace and forgiveness and cost more than we could ever pay — yet it’s free to all.

When we celebrate communion, we remember the gift of salvation Jesus gave us. It reminds us of the sacrifice that Jesus made on our behalf. The bread represents Jesus’ body that was broken for us and the wine represents His blood that was poured out for our salvation. And it’s an opportunity for us to remember where we were when we met Jesus and to thank Him for this gift that never ends.

    Act:

Everyone’s story of receiving the gift of salvation is different. Take a moment to write yours down. As you do, ask God for the opportunity to share that story with someone. Be prepared, because He will give you chances to share the reason for your hope.

    Pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the most valuable gift I could ever have hoped for — grace and forgiveness through a relationship with Jesus Christ. Help me recognize the opportunities You give me to share this gift with others. Help me tonever grow tired of expressing all the amazing things You’ve done in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
