    Read:

Ephesians 1:13 “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,”

    Think:

The Great Seal of the United States holds a special place as the emblem of America, symbolizing something of great importance to our nation. It is fascinating to know that there is only one official seal, carefully managed by the U.S. Department of State, and its usage requires specific approval from the Secretary of State. This seal represents both ownership and identity, drawing inspiration from historical uses of seals in ancient civilizations like Egypt, China, and one was even used in closing the tomb of Jesus.

When we think about the concept of "sealing," it takes on a deep personal meaning as a follower of Christ. It signifies a divine act of God's ownership, where the Holy Spirit seals us (Ephesians 1:13-14), affirming that we are the chosen children of God and assuring us that we truly belong to him. This seal serves as an unbreakable mark of security, guaranteeing that we are sealed until the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30). It's comforting to know that no one can remove or tamper with the seal that God has placed upon our lives. We are secure in him.

Paul's discussion about sealing reminds us of how important it was in ancient times to officially mark letters, contracts, and significant documents. The use of hot wax and a signet ring authenticated the document and indicated its submission to the authority of the signet's owner. Similarly, our sealing in Christ through the Holy Spirit carries profound meaning in our lives. It provides us with security, assuring us that we are genuine, owned by God, and empowered with authority in him. This sealing encompasses four crucial aspects: security, authenticity, ownership, and authority, reminding us of the profound importance we have in God.

    Apply:

When Christians are sealed with the Holy Spirit they are delegated to proclaim, teach, minister, and defend God’s Word and his gospel with the Lord’s own authority. What is your next step as a believer?

    Pray:

Father, thank you for choosing me and calling me your own. Help me to fully understand the authority you’ve given me by your Son, Jesus. In Jesus' name, Amen.
