Read:
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
Think:
Have you ever been on the road and encountered dense fog? It is amazing how mere water vapor can form into something that can completely block a person’s field of vision! In those conditions, it’s unwise to continue forward and drive blindly – venturing into the unknown, not having any way to tell what is waiting on the other side.
In the context of today’s devotional, Joshua was not only about to enter a “dense fog” himself, but he was about to lead an entire nation into it as well. They were about to try and take over the Promised Land with little idea of the exact response they would face. Thankfully, Joshua had a set of eyes on the other side of the fog.
It is true that, under normal circumstances, it would have been foolish for a small nation to try and take on a vast land of different nations. However, the Lord was on the other side of the fog. More than a simple pair of eyes, the Lord was sovereign over everything that the nation of Israel was about to face. He even promised Joshua that He would be with the people of Israel every step of the way. They had every reason to be “strong and courageous.”
This passage shows us that when God calls us to move, He can see past the fog AND provide the exact steps we need to take. We can have confidence in anything He calls us to!
Could the Lord be calling you to step into an opportunity that seems risky because not every step is laid out? Are you faced with a situation that doesn’t have a clear solution?
Spoiler Alert: The Israelites conquered the entirety of the Land they were called to, and the Lord took care of them. If He can do that for them, He can take care of you too!
Act:
Read further into the book of Joshua to learn about the steps the Israelites would have to take so that they could conquer the Promised Land. Assess areas in life where God is calling you to take the next step, and then do it!
Pray:
Lord, thank You for caring so much for me. As You set the earth and stars above, You are more than capable of leading me into what I am called to. Give me the courage and show me the next step You have for me today. Amen.
