    Think

Facing temptation is an inescapable part of human existence. At times, the lures and traps set by the enemy may seem overwhelming, casting doubt on our ability to withstand. However, when we resist the devil, he will flee from us. This resistance is not a passive avoidance but an active stand against the pressures that seek to take us away from God's path.

But how do we resist? The answer lies in the first part of the verse: "Submit yourselves, then, to God." Resisting the devil starts with aligning our will with God's will, surrendering our desires, and allowing him to guide our decisions. It's like training in a spiritual gym, building our muscles through prayer, Scripture reading, and obedience to God.

Take the example of a seasoned athlete, always in training, always prepared for the match. Her commitment to exercise, discipline, and proper nutrition helps her face the competition with confidence. Similarly, our spiritual training prepares us for the battles we face, arming us with the strength and resilience needed to stand firm when temptations come our way.

You can have confidence in knowing that this is not a solo journey. We don't have to face our struggles alone. God's presence, along with the support of fellow believers, surrounds us, giving us the courage to resist the pressures that threaten to sway us.

    Apply

This week, try something unique that aligns with submission to God and resistance to temptation. It might be as simple as eliminating distractions during your daily prayer or reading time, or taking a step like joining a small group. Celebrate even the small victories as signs of the devil's retreat from your resistance.

    Pray

Father, I acknowledge my need for your strength and guidance as I face the temptations of this world. Help me to submit and draw near to you. Equip me with the courage and wisdom to resist the enemy and to walk in faithfulness. In Jesus' name. Amen.
