Social media is a gold mine of viral videos. Some people are surprised if their posts reach viral status, but others create content with the goal of gaining mass public recognition. Some of the most famous videos show people helping others in need or doing "random" acts of kindness. If no one ever saw those moments except the giver, the recipient, and God, would the gift or kind act have any less value? No. In fact, it might have more value because the motivation to give was selfless, not selfish!
We extend the love of God when our motivation is not the praise of others, but making an eternal impact. When we give selfishly, we give ourselves glory. But when we give selflessly, we see God move, and He gets the glory!
God loves us selflessly, and He displayed it best when He GAVE His Son, Jesus, to pay off our sin debt. He showed His love by what He gave, and we should love the same way — not for the recognition of others, but because of our love for them.
Act
Make a list of the top five reasons you give. Write them down and pray that God would increase your faith as you step out and become more generous and selfless in your giving.
Pray
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your selfless love. Help me seek You in everything I do, including my motivation for giving. Increase my faith in You and my love for You and others as I follow your example of selflessness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
