Read:
John 9:6-7 “After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. ‘Go,’ he told him, ‘wash in the Pool of Siloam’ (this word means ‘Sent’). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.”
Think:
Jesus displayed various methods of healing throughout his ministry. Sometimes, a simple word from his lips would restore complete wholeness. On a few occasions, he even healed individuals from a distance, responding to the pleas of their loved ones. In one account, a woman was healed when she touched the hem of his garment. However, in this instance, Jesus knelt down, spat on the ground, and made a “mud pie,” which he applied to the blind man's eyes. It may seem like an unconventional and messy approach. Though Jesus could have effortlessly healed the man with a mere word or a gentle touch, he intentionally chose the messy and the mundane.
As we think about this miraculous event, we come to understand that Jesus invited the blind man to participate in some manner in the miracle that only he could perform. It is crucial to recognize that the man's involvement did not bring about the miracle itself; that power resided solely in Jesus. Yet, Jesus understood the valuable lessons we can learn through our healing process. By participating in our own healing, we learn to trust the voice of our Savior, gaining a profound understanding of our brokenness and experiencing the transformative power of God. For the blind man to receive healing, he had to release his former identity as a blind individual and embrace his new reality as a healed disciple. He could no longer cling to his old ways of living and believing because he now possessed sight. No longer confined to darkness, he had encountered the Light, and it forever transformed him.

Heavenly Father, I believe that you are our healer, and you have the best in store for me. I trust you and give my future to you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
