    Let’s Talk About Sex

    Read

1 Corinthians 7:5, “Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.”

    Think

    Supernatural
             Enjoyment
That’s Not X-Rated, but God Created!

Many people shift uncomfortably in their seats and clam up when the topic of sex is broached. It sometimes gets a bad rap as if it’s only necessary for procreation – a mere requirement – rather than pleasure. Then we can swing in the polar opposite direction to a culture that says, “We don’t need anyone placing guidelines or parameters for sex — if it feels good, do it! Worship it and attain it no matter the cost.”

Let’s set the record straight: Sex is a good thing because it’s a God thing! It WAS created for pleasure, and it SHOULD be talked about — but it MUST also be kept within the confines of marriage, between one man and one woman, wholly committed to one another.

In today’s verse, we see the beauty of God’s design. Through good communication and mutual submission, a husband and wife should willingly meet each other’s needs. Both partners are rarely going to be “in the mood” simultaneously, so they must work together and find a balance. However, Paul warns against delaying sex for extended periods because it leads to frustration and, ultimately, temptation! And it should never be withheld for manipulation — “I’ll give you sex if you…” OR “You can forget about tonight, honey!”

The bottom line is this: We have the exclusive privilege of fulfilling our spouse’s sexual needs. It’s a gift, so be intentional and make every effort to keep ramping up romance. It honors your spouse and maintains closeness as you make marriage magic!

    Act

If you’re married, think of something fun you can do tonight to show your spouse you’re in the mood! If you’re in a dating relationship, do something to make your significant other feel special.

    Pray

Lord, Help me to keep You at the center of my life and love as You have loved me. Help me to treat my spouse with respect and serve them in every area – including sex! Amen.
