    Less of Me!

    Read

Luke 9:48, "Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest."

    Think

Jesus turns things upside down and inside out. In this passage, His disciples were arguing over who was the greatest. Jesus taught them that genuine greatness is only achieved through humility. He showed the greatest, tender-loving care to those who were the most vulnerable — children. He declared that the one who is considered the least of humanity is, in fact, the greatest.

We need to understand that humility is not thinking less of ourselves, but thinking of ourselves less. Humility means putting aside our natural self-centeredness and putting someone else's needs first. Humility is a mark of maturity.

Jesus is the perfect example of this. He thought more of you and me, and less of Himself, when He died on the cross. Who around you is in need? Who can you serve, even though it’s not expected of you — a coworker, a family member, a total stranger? How can you show them Christ's love?

Father, help me have genuine humility and awareness of my great need for You. Help me show great love and care to all people, especially those who society considers of lesser value. In Jesus' name, Amen.
