Genesis 17:9, “Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come.”
Think
“You are chosen by God to do great things!”
Abraham had been told by God that he would be the father of many nations and kings. When God told Abraham that a son would be born through Sarah, his barren, ninety-year-old wife, Abraham laughed. Never could he imagine how God could make this happen, much less that his grandson would be the father of 12 sons who would become the 12 tribes of Israel. God’s only condition for this franchise covenant was that Abraham and his descendants be obedient by taking the steps God provided.
It’s just like God to call his children to do the seemingly impossible. At first, it seems like an amazing, exciting plan. But in our humanness, we begin thinking of the obstacles we will have to overcome. We forget that God did not call us to overcome the obstacles but to be obedient and follow the steps that he puts in front of us. Our job is to be obedient by following his lead. It becomes easier if we will always remember… Where God guides, God provides!
Act
What calling has God put in your life that you may be putting aside? Write down the reasons that are stopping you from fulfilling that call. Now, ask God for the courage to take the steps of obedience needed so that his plan can be fulfilled.
Pray
Dear God, thank you for finding me worthy of your calling. Please give me the courage to be obedient and take the steps you have laid out for me. I trust you and know that you will provide the way to carry out your plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
