Read:
Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Proverbs 23:7a (KJV) “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Think:
Do you love junk food? Do you crave salty foods or sweets? If we constantly eat junk food for an extended period, we aren't going to be operating at optimum level. The same is true with what we feed our mind, our soul, our heart. Our goals, our motivation, and our worldview all flow out of the bounty of these areas. No wonder they are referred to in Scripture as the “wellspring of life.” Thoughts are the parents of the action; actions are the parents of a habit; habits are the parents of character; character is the parent of destiny.
If you see yourself going somewhere other than where you are today, you probably need to do a cleansing process. You may need to go on a mental diet and spiritual exercise regime. Make intentional choices to pursue Jesus. He wants to saturate our lives with himself, but he will not force imself on anyone. As we soak up Jesus, spend time with him, and seek him first, we see changes in our thought patterns. This will lead to metamorphoses in our actions, which will form habits, which will then drive us toward character traits, and lead us down the path of our God-ordained purpose.
Apply:
Take a moment and ask God to start fresh. Begin today with a new “diet” of spiritual food. Consume spiritual nourishment (Bible reading, worship, prayer time) that will sustain you and fuel your purpose.
Pray:
Heavenly Father, today help me fix my mind on what is good, what is pure, what is lovely. Thank you that as I read your Word that I am transformed from the inside. Point me to your truth and allow it to change me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
