    Incurable Learners

    Read

John 8:31, "Jesus said to the people who believed in him, "You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings." Proverbs 28:26, "Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe."

    Think

"Become an incurable learner!" When a baby is born, they are launched on a trajectory of learning that is fascinating. If you watch a baby, you can tangibly see them engage with the environment around them. Their eyes open wide, their face lights up, and you can almost see their mind-expanding through constant learning. As we get older, however, something begins to encroach on that excitement. We can too easily become complacent with the amount of knowledge we have. We can reach a certain level of education or achieve a certain milestone and think, "I've learned all there is to learn. I'll just set my life on cruise control." God doesn't want us to live on cruise control, content with the content in our minds. He wants us to experience the joy of constantly learning and the thrill of living as his disciple! The word disciple comes from the Greek word that means "learner." It's not just about gaining information, it's about allowing God to teach us through our everyday experiences. Are you constantly seeking to learn more about God and his plan and purpose for your life? Don't set your life on cruise control; discover the joy of being an incurable learner!

    Act

We live in an age of information overload. But what information are you engaged in? Rather than playing that video game or locking in on one more episode of that show you are binge-watching, ask a trusted friend for a great book recommendation. Study the Bible for ten more minutes. Or listen to past sermons on EdYoungSermons.com. Don't dull your mind with meaningless content. Instead, fill your mind and your heart with the kind of information that can lead to true transformation!

    Pray

God, thank you for giving me a mind that can constantly grow. Help me to never grow complacent with what I know. Instead, help me to consistently apply that knowledge in the life you have given me. Amen!
