    Read

Joshua 24:15, “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Proverbs 3:33, “He blesses the home of the righteous.”

    Think

Wouldn’t it be nice if our family life was like TV sitcom families? Within 30 minutes, the family goes from laughing to the ubiquitous misunderstanding to a heartfelt conflict resolution. But life isn’t that simple. Each family has its own unique struggles. However, we can live out God’s ideal for the family by committing to His house and applying His principles within our own home.

In today’s reading, Joshua gathered all of Israel to recount the history of God’s faithfulness to His people. Idol worship was a problem, and many wavered between obeying God and participating in pagan practices. They were without excuse. They’d experienced the Lord’s blessing firsthand. Therefore, he challenged the Israelites to choose whom they’d serve. His house would serve the Lord.

Have you made that choice? Whether you are single or married, with or without children, have you declared that your house will serve the Lord? Or, are you still wavering between serving God and serving the things of this world? Serving God doesn’t guarantee all conflicts will resolve in 30 minutes, but building your home on the Rock — Jesus — will give you a foundation that can never be shaken!

    Pray

Dear Lord, I am Your servant. If I begin to waver between serving You and becoming consumed by the busyness of everyday life, quickly remind me of Your faithfulness. Help me have a single-minded focus on You in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
