Matthew 6:34 "Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."
Think
Do you ever feel like worry and anxiety are a part of who you are? Do you ever feel like it is your personality trait? Like if you didn't worry, maybe you would feel incomplete? Do you worry about things beyond your control? Are you extremely concerned about situations you can't direct: your kids' safety, other people's actions, and maybe even natural disasters?
The alternative to worry is to trust! We allow ourselves to walk in the joy of today when we trust God for tomorrow. We can trust his promises and goodness. His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). Our worry about tomorrow messes up our lives when we allow it to rule us. It focuses our attention on an imagined fear of a faux tomorrow and distracts our attention from God's loving and generous provision for today.
Apply
Memorize 1 Peter 5:7 and ask yourself, “How have I seen God's faithfulness?” When you remember his faithfulness, your worry decreases, and trust increases.
Pray
Heavenly Father, I choose today to trust your goodness and walk in your promises. Help me to not waste my life worrying about things I cannot control. Help me to rest in you. Amen.
