Proverbs 11:2,
"When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom."
Think
"When we say, ‘I got it,' the truth is ‘it' usually has us." Have you ever had a good coach who has taken you to the next level? Maybe it was playing sports, maybe it was a fitness trainer, a business coach, or a spiritual mentor. Imagine if every time your coach gave you some advice or offered a suggestion, you said, "No, I know better than you. I got it!" Do you think that coach could help you much? No. That pride would keep you from reaching the next level. Sadly, we often treat God in this way. We reject His leadership, because we think we know best. Through the Bible, through the wisdom of a Christian community, through the teaching of a pastor, God offers us the path to a flourishing life. But, too often, we reject it out of pride and arrogance. This is no way to live! You were created by God, so only God truly knows what you need. And you need Him above all else! Until you stop and admit that God must be first in your life, and that you don't know what is best, your life will be filled with friction. God is not a good-luck charm to turn to in trouble, or only on Sunday. He wants to be your ever-present friend, leader, and Savior in every single moment of every single day!
Act
This week will be filled with hundreds of decisions, some big and some small. In every opportunity, ask yourself, "Does what I want line up with what God wants me to do? How can I move from ‘I got it!' to ‘God's got it!'?
Pray
Dear Heavenly Father, I am worn out from going through the journey of life following my own ways and my own wisdom. Give me the discipline to constantly look to You for Your wisdom and Your guidance in every situation. I pray this in the powerful name of Jesus, Amen!
