    Truth Be Told

Proverbs 11:3,  "The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them."

    Think

"There is a wholeness to someone who is honest while the fool is fragmented." Relationships with honest people are about wholeness. The word integrity comes from the Latin word integer, which means "whole." That's why today's verse highlights the integrity of the right THEY. For example:
    • When they tell a story, you can trust all the details.
    • You can be completely open about who you are.
    • If they say they are going to be somewhere, you can count on it.
    • If something is wrong, they will have the hard conversation to tell you everything you need to hear.
Wholeness brings health to the relationship. People who aren't into honesty are fragmented
    • They say they are your friend, but you can't be honest about who you are.
    • They say what needs to be said, but only some of the time.
    • They say they are going to show up, but then don't show half the time.
    • They tell great stories, but you aren't sure what facts are exaggerated and which ones are true.
When you notice the fragmented signs of someone who isn't into honesty - run! Head for the hills! Remember, this standard of honesty goes both ways in a healthy relationship. When you feel that tug to be less than honest, remember your part in keeping honesty in the relationship.

    Act

When you think about your life, where are you tempted to be less than honest? Take a moment and reflect on your honesty in relationships based on the points above. Ask God to show you where you struggle, then make the commitment to be honest in that area the next opportunity you get.

    Pray

Heavenly Father, thank you for the opportunities to be honest in my relationships. Please help me make the most of those opportunities so I can have the kind of relationships you want. Amen.
