    The Ultimate Sacrifice

    Read

John 15:13,  "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends."

    Think

"We will never forget." Most people think "three-day weekend!" when they hear about Memorial Day. Or, they gear up for big sales and barbeques. And while none of those things are bad, they aren't the true meaning of this day. Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day when it was created, to "remind us of the sacrifices required to preserve the blessings of liberty." It is a time to remember those men and women who have sacrificed on our behalf and to reflect on the gift of freedom that their sacrifice has provided. But theirs isn't the only sacrifice made for us. The greatest sacrifice ever made on your behalf was made by Jesus Christ. He gave himself up willingly so that each of us could experience the ultimate freedom-forgiveness of our past and future sin, as well as eternal life with him in Heaven. Have you accepted the gift that sacrifice provided? Have you shared that gift with others? As you go about your day, remember the sacrifices made for your freedom.

    Act

Read John 3:16 and thank God for the freedom he offers us through his son, Jesus. Second, take time today – whatever your Memorial Day plans may be – to pray for the families and loved ones of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

    Pray

Dear God, thank you for the ultimate freedom you offer through Jesus Christ. Please bless the men and women who have sacrificed for our freedom here in America. In Jesus' name, Amen!
