    The Stronger Voice

Psalm 23:1, 3 "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He restores my soul."

    Think

As we saw yesterday, there is a voice, the shadow voice, that lurks in the basement of our personality and reminds us of our past failures and floods our heart with waves of anxiety about the future. This shadow voice caused David, a mighty king, to call himself a worm! How do we silence this shadow voice? By learning to listen to the stronger voice. It is revealing that David would first call himself a worm in the 22nd Psalm and then declare emphatically in the 23rd Psalm, "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want!" What changed? David was using a mighty weapon to silence the shadow voice of condemnation and fear. He used the stronger voice of God's truth to quiet the taunts of the shadow voice. God has given us a way to drown out the negative whispers of the shadow voice. He has given us the stronger voice of his word, the Bible. In the 119th Psalm David wrote that he meditated day and night on God's word. He let the stronger voice of God's truth override the lies and win the day.

    Act

Yesterday, you made a list of all the lies the shadow voice tells you. Today, find verses in the Bible that counter the lies on your list. If you are unsure, ask those who are mature in the faith to help you or you can google "Bible verses that deal with ____." Write the Bible verses down and read them throughout the day.

    Pray

Heavenly Father, as I read the truth of your word (read aloud one of your chosen scripture verses), give me understanding and let its truth get deep into my soul. Amen.
