    The Power of the Tongue

    Read

James 3:5,  Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark."

    Think

"A God-driven outlook gives us a God-ordained outcome!" The power of words is undeniable. With our tongue, we have the ability to build others up or tear others down. We have the strength to guide others down the path God has set before them, or we can distract them from their purpose. As with anything, when it comes to the words we speak, we should take our cues from Christ. Every word Jesus spoke mattered. Every sentence was stacked with strength. Every phrase was packed with power. Even in His dying moments, the words of Jesus set an example for us that we should all display - an example that engages and encourages, convicts and comforts. As we continue to study the last words of Jesus through this series by Ed Young, ask yourself a challenging question: do the words I speak reverberate with the message God would have me communicate-to others and to myself?

    Act

The words we speak to others are important. But the words we speak to ourselves are just as important. Begin today (and every day) with the kind of words that truly matter by spending a few moments reading the Bible. And remember that you have been created by God for a very powerful purpose!

    Pray

Dear God, thank You for recording the words of Your Son in the Bible. May they serve not only as my source of strength, but also as an example I may reflect to those around me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
