    The One

    Read

John 11:25, "Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die...'"

    Think

"The Bible has one villain (the devil), one hero (Jesus), and one message (Jesus saves)!" The situation seemed hopeless. Days earlier, Mary and Martha had plenty of hope. Their brother was sick, but they were friends with Jesus. They knew that when Jesus heard about his sickness, he would come and heal their brother. So, Mary and Martha sent word. Then they waited. And while they waited for Jesus to show up, their brother died. Mary and Martha knew Jesus was hero enough to heal their brother from his sickness. But in that hopeless moment, they were about to learn that Jesus was an even greater hero than they thought. Because Jesus walked into Mary and Martha's hopeless moment, raised their brother back to life, and showed them his power was greater than even death. Jesus gave Martha a glimpse into what he offers to all of us when he said "I am the resurrection and the life." He can take the "dead" things in our lives and bring them back to life. And because he was willing to die in our place, we can all experience eternal life – if we will trust in him and receive the forgiveness that he offers. Jesus is a hero unlike any other!

    Act

There is no hero like Jesus! Have you committed to looking to Jesus in every situation – even those that seem hopeless? What is an important decision or appointment you have in the next 24 hours that you need to ask for Jesus' help?

    Pray

God, thank you for sending Jesus, the hero that is beyond all others. Please help me remember to trust Jesus, not only when I need to be rescued, but in all my decisions so I can experience your power in the present and your promise for the future. In Jesus' name, Amen.
