1 Samuel 2:4-5, "The bows of the warriors are broken, but those who stumbled are armed with strength. Those who were full hire themselves out for food, but those who were hungry are hungry no more. She who was barren has borne seven children, but she who has had many sons pines away."

Think

In today's verse, Hannah calls upon God's justice as she describes a God-granted reversal of fortune. Those who are weak experience God-given success while those who are excelling experience defeat. Essentially, she's prophesying that the proud will fall as the humble rise because of God's almighty power. Throughout the Bible, we see the impossible made possible by God's power: Gideon's army of 300 men defeats a massive army. A young David takes out a giant bully with a single stone. Jesus, the ultimate model of humility, defeats death as he burst forth from the grave. But what about in the day-to-day? We see power-hungry, godless people boast while others who closely follow Christ work tirelessly just to make ends meet. We see people with large families deny Jesus while young couples who love Jesus struggle with infertility. The reason - life isn't fair, but God is good! His Word says the proud will be destroyed as the humble inherit his kingdom. So, no matter what we yearn for, when we rely on God we can trust him to give us exactly what we need at exactly the right time!

Act

A great way to remember that God's promises are true is by memorizing and meditating on Scripture. Matthew 6:33 is a great place to start: "But seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Dear Lord, I know that no matter what I face, your provision, protection, and plan goes before me. Help me to quickly recognize my own pride, hypocrisy, and arrogance so that I may humble myself before you, knowing that your power is made perfect in my weakness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
