    Our Wants or God's Will?

Luke 22:42,  "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me, yet not my will but yours be done."

    Think

"Jesus did not focus on His own wants; He focused on God's will!" God's will is a big subject and can be a bit daunting. So what is the will of God and how do we know what it looks like? God's will is His perfect plan for our lives, what He intended for us, and who He intended for us to be. Living out God's will is essentially what "living your best life" looks like. As we are obedient to God one step at a time, He shows us the next step. This doesn't mean we'll always be able to see far ahead or around the curve, but He does promise to give us a firm foot-hold each step of the way. One of the ways we discern God's will is by talking to Him about it. Think about the last time you prayed, what was it about? So often, we send up a quick laundry-list prayer to God in hopes He'll grant our wishes like a genie in a bottle. But that's not what our conversations with Him should be like. God has a perfect plan and will for our lives that we aren't always able to comprehend or understand. So rather than telling Him what we want, we need to ask Him what we need!

    Act

Start a prayer journal this week; being able to see our words and thoughts helps us map out and process what we are saying. Check yourself: Are you spending more time telling God what you want or asking for what He wants?

    Pray

Dear Lord, please open my eyes to Your perfect will, even when I don't fully understand the purpose of the path. Take my life and lead me; not my will but Yours be done. In Jesus' name, Amen.
