John 19:26,
"When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, ‘Woman, here is your son,'"
Think
"The family is the cornerstone of who we are." For just a moment, imagine the pain, torment, and agony Jesus endured on the cross. Now, imagine that someone you knew personally was hanging on the cross, someone very close to you. If that was your closest friend or even your son, think about the pain that you would be feeling as you watched helplessly. That's what is happening in this situation. Jesus is enduring the worst pain imaginable, physically and spiritually, and His mother and best friend are forced to stand by, helpless. So what does Jesus do? Rather than focusing on Himself, He takes a moment to comfort them and remind them that they have each other to lean on. He is reminding them about the power and presence of family. For those of us who are believers, He is reminding us of the same thing. We may not all be related by blood, but if we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are related by faith. As you go through your life, remember that Jesus endured the pain on the cross for you. He did it to give you a new family and a new place to connect. Don't try to go through life on your own. Instead, lean into the faith family that Jesus has given you. Remember, He literally gave His life for it!
Act
Jesus, in his last moments, was not concerned with himself, but with those He loved. How can you take His example and extend it to those around you? Take a moment to pray for opportunities this week to invite your friends and family to Fellowship Church's Easter experiences, where they will learn about the ultimate act of love!
Pray
Dear Heavenly Father, in the moments I need it help me to remember that I am not alone in life. Help me embrace the fact that You have provided a family for me to connect with and a place I can call "home." In Jesus' name, Amen.
