Psalm 37:5, "Commit your way to the Lord; trust Him, and He'll act."
Colossians 3:23 "Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people."
Think
Clorox brand did a recent study called "The Dirt on Spring Cleaning: American's Top Cleaning Confessions." They surveyed 1,230 people to find out which household chores were most favored and disliked. Of the options given, laundry came in at the top of the list (or at least most tolerable) while dusting was the biggest loser.
Do you wake up every day with a passion for completing household chores? If you're like most of us, the answer is "no." You likely start a task begrudgingly and out of pure necessity. However, after the work is done, you enjoy the feeling of accomplishment that follows - at least until it's time to clean it again!
What if we only did household chores when we "felt" like it? Our homes would be in total disarray! The same is true when it comes to our walk with Christ. We can't just obey Him when we feel like doing it - it's far more damaging to our lives than a messy house.
Like household chores, if we wait until we feel like doing life God's way, it'll never happen. Why? Because you can commit your way into a feeling, but you can't feel your way into a commitment. So, what if, instead, you commit to remain under the authority of God's Word and let your feelings follow? What may seem like "dusting" at first will eventually lead to a joy-filled life of adventure and purpose.
Commit to God's best TODAY by aligning your priorities with His. When you do, you'll feel the joy of walking in step with Christ!
Act
What commitments do you need to establish today? Is it setting a specific time each day to read the Bible, scheduling a weekly date night your spouse, or making church attendance a top priority? Whatever it may be, make a list of areas where you lack commitments and then make a plan for accountability with a trusted friend or family member. Don't put it off - JUST DO IT!
Pray
Dear God, Thank You for the reminders throughout Scripture that I can refer to when I don't feel like following through with my commitments. Help me to continue to grow in my love and understanding of You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
