James 1:23-24,
"Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like."
Think
Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall... When we look into a mirror, there are times we like what we see and times we don't. If our hair looks like we've been standing in hurricane-force winds, we smooth it down. Or, if we have a skin blemish, we address it, because we want to present our "best self." In today's passage, Coach James compares a literal mirror to one far more important: the mirror of God's Word. James is saying, studying the Bible without addressing our moral flaws and imperfections is a complete waste of time! A Christ-follower's goal is to continually grow more and more like Christ. How can we be who God wants us to be without self-examination and a willingness to change? Anything less is self-deception! As you spend time daily with God, enhance your inner beauty by truly examining yourself and applying Scripture to your life. Because then, and only then, will you look at your reflection and see Christ looking back!
