    Humble

1 Peter 5:5, "Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

    Think

"Humility is the constant realization of who you are (a sinner), what you have (nothing), and where you would be without God (nowhere)." In our modern way of thinking, the word "humble" is often misunderstood . We think of it in terms of "being less than" or at least acting as such. However, humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less. It is a manner of setting aside our fears and inadequacies, focusing on others and saying, "I'm here to help someone else." Mary was a great example of humility. As a teenager engaged to be married, God chose this humble young woman to be the virgin mother of the Messiah. Even at such a young age, her heart reflected the humility that would bring God's grace to her life. She set any fear of being ostracized and rejected aside. And instead, she recognized that she would have nothing and be nowhere without God. Therefore, she humbled herself and said "yes" to his will for her life. Like Mary, when we humble ourselves, we find ourselves in a position to be used by God.

    Act

What is it that God may be asking you to humble yourself to do? Instead of saying "no," ask someone God has placed in your life for wise counsel. Chances are they can help you see the prospect in a different way.

    Pray

Heavenly Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. I know that without you I would be lost in my sin. I would truly have nothing and be nowhere without you. I humble myself before you, my Creator. Use me for your purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen!
