    History Lessons

    Read

1 Corinthians 10:11, "These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come."

    Think

The Bible is a book that everyone can relate to, because it shows us the full breadth of the human experience. Not only do we see the good in people and the times they succeed; we also see the times that people drop the ball and miss out on God's purpose for them in the moment. That is something we can all relate to! In today's verse, the Apostle Paul is reminding us that we can (and should) learn from the history of God's people, the Israelites. Their story – which was a very real game of Candy Land – is recorded in the Old Testament so that the lessons are not forgotten. The Israelites were on a ‘quest for candy.' When we watch how they played the game, we realize what we should do and not do as we pursue God's plan for our lives as well. Don't fumble and stumble your way through life. Instead, learn from the mistakes made by those who have gone before you, and discover the clear path that God has set before you!

    Act

Commit to reading through the first several chapters of the book of Exodus this week (we will help guide you). As you read, ask God for the strength to apply the lessons you learn.

    Pray

Dear God, thank You for providing me with the examples in Scripture of what to do and what not to do. Help me to have the discipline and discernment to apply those lessons in my life so that I can achieve all You have in store for me! In Jesus' name, Amen.
