Isaiah 42:8, "I am the Lord; that is My name! I will not give My glory to another or praise to idols."

Romans 11:36, "For from Him and through Him and for Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen."

Think

Have you ever played the game "Never Have I Ever?" The objective is to be the last player standing after a series of questions. If you "have" then you're out.

Let's play! But, with a slight twist. If you "have ever" you're in and if you "have never" you're out! Have you ever:
• Made the sun stand still?
• Told the wind which way to blow and lightning where to strike?
• Made fire rain down from the sky?

Throughout the Old Testament, God challenged many people with such questions. Was He trying to show off or impress them? No! God was revealing His ultimate authority and power. He was saying, "I'm God and you're not." Why, then, do we have such a hard time keeping Him in His rightful place? Do we really think we can outplay God in the game of life?

If we are the "god" of our own lives - determined to glorify ourselves and failing to see God as God - our lives will be meaningless and devoid of purpose. When we approach God in surrender and acknowledge His right to rule, we will be living out our purpose. As we do, we'll experience joy and fulfillment. And never will we ever be disappointed with all God has to offer.

Act

In Psalm 8, David reflects on his time as shepherd alone in the fields and praises the vast and majestic nature of God. Take a moment to do the same with verses 3-4, and thank God for His constant love, authority, and provision: "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is mankind that You are mindful of them, human beings that You care for them?"

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for being You! I praise Your name and wonderful works. Help me to approach life in a state of surrender in order to live out Your will and Your way instead of my own. And may I glorify You in all I do. In Jesus' name, Amen.
