    God > Fear

    Read

Psalm 27:1, "The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear?" Psalm 33:8-9, "Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of Him. For when He spoke, the world began! It appeared at His command."

    Think

Think about a childhood fear. Maybe you were scared of the dark, were frightened by creepy shadows and bumps in the night, or couldn't go to sleep until your parents checked under the bed. Now, as an adult, you realize how silly it was to think something scary was lurking nearby at bedtime. Why, then, do we so often put fear on a pedestal? We allow fear to consume us and take up mental space that rightfully belongs to God. And if you think about it, that, too, is just as silly. God is bigger! God is stronger! God is all-powerful, always present, and there's nothing He doesn't know! If the Lord is our light, we have nothing to fear in the dark. If He is our salvation, He holds the keys to life both here and in heaven. So, this leaves us with the greatest rhetorical question of all time: "Whom shall we fear?" With that in mind, let's take a stroll down memory lane. God spoke the universe into existence. God led the Israelites from Egyptian slavery into the Promised Land. God led Gideon's army of 300 men to defeat 135,000 enemy soldiers. God delivered Daniel from the lion's den. God sent Jesus to put death to death as He overcame the grave. And that victory is ours! And if He can do that, then again, let's ask ourselves, "Who or what shall we fear?"

    Act

Today, simply meditate on Psalm 27:1. It's easy to memorize and serves as a great reminder that God > Fear!

    Pray

Dear God, I am fearful and realize that I have put the fear of ______ on a pedestal. Today, I choose to stop deifying this fear. You are in control of everything, and I trust You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
