1 Corinthians 10:23, "All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify."

Proverbs 24:3, "A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense."

    Think

Building a house is no small feat. Countless decisions go into the process. So, where do you even begin? Any reliable homebuilder will respond, "It starts with laying a solid foundation!" It sounds simplistic, but without a strong foundation, your new house will only be destined for chronic problems and, eventually, become uninhabitable.

When it comes to the approximate 35,000 decisions we make every day, we need wisdom because many of the choices before us aren't directly answered in Scripture. Before we act hastily, we must ask ourselves, "What principles in the Bible can help guide me? Will the outcome of this decision build me up or tear me down?" That's why our worldview is so important. If we don't run our decisions through the filter of God's Word, we'll build our lives on the unwanted cracks and crevices that lead to major problems.

In 1 Corinthians 10:23, Paul uses the word "edify," meaning "to build a house." Our lives are too valuable to operate on a faulty foundation. Unfortunately, too many make choices based on a self-centric worldview of convenience and emotion, which is about as stable as shifting sand. Choose instead to use a biblical filter and seek God's rock-solid foundational wisdom in every consequential decision. It's the only way to ensure a life of stability, endurance, and strength.

So, build your "house" on the solid slab of salvation through Christ, applying God's eternal truth, and using the blueprints of blessing He's laid out for us throughout the pages of Scripture!

    Act

What consequential decision are you trying to make? Make a list of the pros and cons of your potential options. Ask God for wisdom to make the best choice - one that builds you up and allows you to be obedient to Christ.

    Pray

Heavenly Father, Sometimes, I have so many decisions to make that I don't know where to begin - especially the choices I make that have no clear right and wrong. Guide my thoughts to choose wisely. And help me focus on options that not only build me up but also glorify You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
