Hebrews 8:12,
"And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins." Psalm 103:12,
"He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west."
Think
"Too often, we remember what we should forget and forget what we should remember." Sometimes we can be so forgetful. Have you ever sat down for lunch and suddenly remembered you missed a meeting - the one you made three reminders for and still forgot about it? Or, gone out to dinner with friends right after work and forgot to go home and let the dog out? Then there are things that we need to forget. Maybe it was a moment you weren't proud of, or a decision you wish you could go back and change. They continue to echo in your heart and mind. The guilt, fear, and shame seem just as real as when it first happened. God's word, the Bible, promises us that if we have trusted in Jesus, he has removed our sins as far as the east is from the west and will never again remember them. The way to "forget" our past is to remember what God says. How do we do that? Read the Bible, memorize it, and pray regularly. All of these things will help drown out the lies of the enemy and keep God's truth before us. Remember, God has chosen to forgive and forget. He wants us to do the same.
Act
Take a piece of paper and write down the things that the enemy keeps bringing up and playing in your mind. Then in big letters write FORGIVEN over it. Tear that sheet up and throw it away. Every time the enemy brings it back up, just say "I'm forgiven!"
Pray
Dear God, thank you for forgiving me. Help me to focus on what you want me to remember and forget what you want me to forget. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
