Deuteronomy 6:5, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength." Romans 12:2, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will."

"Followers fast to follow fast!" – Ed Young Doesn't it seem like fasting should be called slowing or delaying? Time goes by slowly when our stomachs are growling. We delay instant gratification to dial into God's desires. However, the term fasting is a derivative of "fasten," to hold fast. So, as we fast, we're essentially fastening ourselves to God, clinging to His guidance to gain perspective with one or two specific objectives. Scripture is full of biblical behemoths who "held fast" before achieving amazing things. Nehemiah fasted prior to seeking the king's approval to leave his service and rebuild the Jerusalem wall. Ezra fasted prior to leading the Jews on an arduous journey to restore the temple. God's Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness for forty days of fasting in preparation for His public ministry. Although our fasting objectives may differ from those above, God wants to work through us to accomplish great things as well. And if fasting played such a crucial preparatory role prior to Jesus' public ministry, just imagine how important it is for us - who aren't perfect - to align with God's strength, guidance, and perspective. So, fasten yourself to His will, listen for His voice, and thank Him in advance for the victory that's yours in Christ!

    Act

It's the weekend, and eating out can be tricky. So, know what you're going to order and pray for strength before you even leave the driveway! Remember, this fast is temporary but well worth the blessings that await you on the other side!

    Pray

Dear Lord, I fasten myself to Your Word, Your wisdom, and Your will. It pleases me to follow Jesus' example as I fast in preparation to fulfill my unique purpose. I thank You in advance for the victory and blessing that awaits me on the other side. In Jesus' name, Amen.
