    Fear-worm

    2 Timothy 1:7, "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."

    Philippians 4:8, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things."

    Think

    Have you ever had an "earworm?" You know, when a song like "It's a Small World" or "Who Let the Dogs Out" infects your mind and keeps playing relentlessly for no apparent reason? While it isn't so bad in the beginning, the longer the tune lingers, the more annoying it becomes. The only cure is to replace it with a less obnoxious song.

    Fear is like a highly infectious earworm. The enemy constantly whispers fearful thoughts in our ears, and if we're not careful, they can become an undercurrent in our lives. We may not quite be able to pinpoint it, but it's always there. As a result, fear invades our minds, consumes us, and even convinces us that it's our friend. And the longer it stays, the harder it is to eliminate.

    So, how do we rid ourselves of "fear-worm?" Paul gives us a clue in Philippians 4:8 with a list of several godly qualities to think about and replace the enemy's same old annoying tune.

    As His child, God has equipped you with the spirit of power, love, and self-control. You have the ability to kick fear in the rear and turn those fearful whispers into excellent and praiseworthy thoughts!

    In addition to reading God's word and daily devotionals, filling your mind with music that glorifies God is a great way to eliminate "fear-worm."     Heavenly Father, Thank You for the excellent and praiseworthy things you've put in my life to replace the enemy's message of fear. Help me to engage the spirit of power, love, and self-control that You have given me. In Jesus' name, Amen!
