Proverbs 29:23,
"A man's pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will obtain honor."
Think
The Flaw of Egonomics One of the greatest flaws that can surface in our lives is the rise of our egos. E.G.O. stands for Edging God Out. In fact, whenever pride walks in, God walks out. Pride is what got Lucifer kicked out of heaven and Proverbs 6 tells us that it's public enemy number one in God's mind. Humility is a word that seems to almost be extinct these days. In God's Egonomics, the way up is down. That's why he said that John the Baptizer was the most humble man alive in his day. Why? Because John's whole purpose was to take the spotlight off himself and shine it on Jesus. He told others about Jesus' coming. Then when Jesus arrived, he stepped out of the limelight and Jesus took center stage. One of the greatest promises in scripture is that if we humble ourselves, God will lift us up. The opposite is also true. If we get on the ride of pride, we will discover that there is a steep drop at the end. Pride always comes before the fall. Don't let ego trump humility in your life because whenever we get too big for our britches, we will always be exposed in the end!
Act
Don't let your ego win out over humility. Be proactive by thinking of others over yourself. Go the extra mile like we learned yesterday and do something specific that meets the need of others today.
Pray
God, help me be humble like your Son. I'm so thankful that he humbled himself to die on a cross for my sins. Help me to humble myself, too, and love others like he did. Help me conquer pride in my life and may humility be a value that I practice daily with your help. I pray this in Jesus' name, Amen.
