    Double Trouble

James 1:7-8, "That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do."

    Think

A trust turnover to the opposition can be avoided by turning over every situation to God! When a basketball player double dribbles in a game it's because both hands touched the ball at the same time. For just a moment, the player has a lapse and becomes indecisive about which hand to use. The referee blows the whistle, gives the sign for double-dribbling and the ball gets turned over to the opposing team. When we struggle in our belief it's like double-dribbling. Our indecisiveness causes us to make a trust turnover. We turn the ball over to our opponent, Satan, and he scores by breeding worry, fear and confusion in our minds. But if we choose to trust in God and his abilities, he gives us peace, strength and confidence. God doesn't want us to be double-minded, as today's scripture reminds us. We simply cannot choose both options. Are you double-dribbling through life – appearing to trust God, but doubting him in your heart? Avoid trust turnovers! Commit to maintaining a single-minded focus on God. When you narrow your focus and play for an audience of one – God – you will always gain the homecourt advantage as you live a championship life.

    Act

Recall a time in your life when you asked God to meet a specific need, but in your heart, you doubted him, and your choice resulted in a trust turnover. Write a short letter to God in your journal asking for forgiveness and the faith to trust him next time.

    Pray

God, when I pray, I want to believe with my whole heart and not doubt you! Help me when I have bouts with doubt to remember that you always meet my needs and have the power to do more than I could ever ask for or imagine. Amen!
