Proverbs 26:14 (KJV),
"As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed."
Think
"Slothfulness always says, ‘Tomorrow,' but tomorrow never comes." The Bible has some harsh words for the slothful (lazy) person. Think about the image-a door fixed to its hinges that is slowly moving, but it is really going nowhere. In the rest of this chapter in Proverbs, we learn that the lazy person has plenty of excuses (v.14). They also have the audacity to claim that, in their laziness, they know better than seven men (v.16)! Are you always making excuses about why you won't do something today because there is always tomorrow? Do you give the appearance of action, but are really just avoiding doing the hard things? God doesn't want us to live that way, because He knows that when we do, we miss out on so much! In life, most of the things worth doing are actually the hardest things. This is especially true of the Christian life! Jesus says that following His way in life is not always easy, but it leads to true life. Don't put off until tomorrow what God has called you to do today!
Act
Is there something you know you should be doing today (not tomorrow!)? Even if you aren't convinced, practice the truth that the hard things are worth doing! Wake up early to read the Bible and pray. Be courageous and apologize to your friend or spouse. Sign up for the Connect Group you've been "too busy" to go to. Or step up to serve in some capacity at Fellowship Church on the weekend!
Pray
Dear God, I ask that you give me the courage and strength to take on the difficult parts of life, to tackle what I am avoiding, and see how You want to use me today! In Jesus' name, Amen.
