Joshua 24:15, "But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
1 Corinthians 15:58, "Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
Think
Jesus walked this earth to serve, not be served. He accomplished His Father's will by doing for us what we couldn't do for ourselves - paying the ultimate price for our sins on the cross and rising again. The Perfect Servant's actions are still impacting the world thousands of years later!
Joshua was also servant-hearted. As Moses' successor and protégé, he was tasked with leading the children of Israel (which was no small group) into the Promised Land. Noticing they were going back and forth about serving God, he gathered his people and told them to get off the fence. He challenged them to decide once and for all who they'd serve and declared, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." He set a clear direction for his household - the right direction. What a great example to all parents and leaders today!
Serving isn't just an attitude; it's about action. Maybe you're on the fence about serving. There is no better time to choose! God has specific tasks in mind for you to accomplish. If you're currently serving in the local church, take heart and know that you're modeling the Savior, and you ARE making a difference! Whether it's greeting, singing, or helping out behind the scenes, God is working in and through your life! So, choose this day whom you'll serve - will it be the Lord?
Act
Surrender your "today" to God and ask Him to orchestrate opportunities for you to serve others in His name. Maybe it's helping a neighbor, sharing your life-change story, or signing up to serve in the local church. Ask God to open your eyes and then go for it!
Pray
Lord Jesus, Thank You for being the ultimate servant. Help me to serve You today. Provide me opportunities to be Your hands and feet. I surrender this "today" to You and look forward to how You will use me. Amen!
