Proverbs 6:6, 6:9-11,
"Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest- and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man."
"If we're not careful, we will always make the slide towards the sluggard." Have you ever felt yourself slipping in an area? Most of us are not intentionally lazy. But, as today's verse tells us, "a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest," and suddenly we are stuck in the slime of a sluggish lifestyle, lulled to sleep by the enemy. The Bible warns us that if we don't stop the slide, it will lead us to poverty: relational, spiritual, emotional, physical, and material poverty. But, how do we stop? We have to identify our gaps - areas where we are snoozing. We need to ask some hard questions like: Do I work 60 hours a week, but I don't make time for my family or for exercising? Am I so afraid to open up to others that I've lost touch with my emotions? Have I hit the snooze button on a relationship so many times that it barely has a pulse? The good news is, God is greater than any poverty you may be experiencing. Take the initiative today to start closing those gaps, knowing you will experience the relational, material, emotional, physical, and spiritual wealth he has in store for you!
Act Take an inventory of the areas of poverty listed above and identify areas where you are snoozing. Set intentional reminders to help you close those gaps. They can be as simple as, "Schedule Date Night," "Hit the Gym," or "Call mom." But when the alarm goes off, don't hit snooze!
Pray Heavenly Father, I know I have gaps in my life. Help me to acknowledge the areas where I am sliding, and not using my time and talent like you would want me to. Thank you for the promise of your strength and wisdom to make these changes. Amen.
