    A Bout With Doubt

    Read

James 1:5-6, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind."

    Think

When your blown by the winds of doubt, fix your eyes on Jesus, your anchor, and the author and perfecter of your faith! Imagine this: It's a windy day and you drop a $20 bill. The wind blows it a few yards away, so you reach to pick it up. Just as you think you're close enough to grab it, you miss, and the wind carries it off in a different direction. When we lack faith, we are just like the $20 bill. Our path is erratic because of our doubt. One minute we're headed in one direction, the next minute we go another. We may say we trust in God, but because of our doubt, we follow our worry, fear and questions. We become so focused on the problems at hand that we lose perspective. This is exactly what the enemy wants! He wants us to focus on the problem rather than God's promises! If we believe God is in control, he will pour out his wisdom to help us navigate through even the worst of circumstances. Place your faith in God, and the next time you have a bout with doubt, stop chasing the wind. Know that God will see you through it all.

    Act

Every time you see a dollar bill, let the phrase "In God we trust" serve as a reminder for you to believe so that you won't be tossed by the winds of doubt blowing in your life.

    Pray

Dear Lord, how grateful I am that you are such a generous God! Thank you for helping me in times of trouble. When I begin to doubt, remind me of your faithfulness, and work within me to develop the character of Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.
