Genesis 2:16, "And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die." Psalm 139:13, "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb."
Think
From the time we are very young, we don't like anyone telling us what to do. We don't want to rely on anyone for anything. In other words, we want to be self-sufficient. But in our attempt to be self-sufficient, we fail to understand a powerful reality. Self-sufficiency is insufficient. It will never get us to where God wants us to be or help us to know who we truly are. To truly know ourselves, we must first know the One who knows us better than ourselves. That One is God – our Creator. Without knowing Him, we'll never answer the big questions in life. We will never understand who we are or what we are here for. Do you know God? Have you acknowledged His primacy and priority in your life? Or are you trying to run and rule your own life, like Adam and Eve did? Don't miss out on the potential God has given you. Instead, understand that God knows you better than you will ever know yourself. Seek Him above all else, and discover the path to becoming self-aware!
Act
On a scrap of paper or notecard, write down this short phrase: "I am CREATED by God!" Keep this paper with you throughout the week, and refer back to it regularly to remind you that you are not an accident or a coincidence; you were created intentionally by God. You are valuable in God's eyes!
Pray
Dear God, I know that You created me on purpose and for a purpose. Help me to get over my desire to be self-sufficient and to instead rely fully on You to help me understand and be who You created me to be. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
