Joshua 24:15, “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Think
“A great life for God requires great loyalty to God.”
Under Joshua’s leadership, Israel successfully conquered the land of Canaan and settled down into the Promised Land. At this juncture, Joshua reminded the Israelites all God had done for them and called upon them to confirm their loyalty to the Lord. They had been loyal when they were desperate and he was reminding them to remain loyal even when they were living comfortably. Just as he had been faithful in the past, they could trust him to be faithful in the future!
To be loyal to God is to be faithful, steadfast in your belief and allegiance. This steadfastness was demonstrated not by behaving perfectly, but by continuing to worship the true God, the creator of the universe. If you aligned yourself with some other god, you were disloyal to the true God and your lack of belief or faith was evident.
As it was for Joshua, so it is today. God continues to desire our loyalty. He expects us to depend on him and look to him when life is desperate and when life is good. And it begins by putting our faith in Jesus and becoming a part of God’s family. To put your faith, your loyalty, in Jesus is to demonstrate your loyalty to God. Choose this day whom you will serve!
Act
Where is your loyalty? Are you aligning your life with Jesus and submitting yourself to his leadership? If not, today is the day you can choose whom you serve! If you have believed, then reconfirm your undivided loyalty to God.
Pray
Heavenly Father, I choose this day to serve you. I submit my life to your son, Jesus Christ. Thank you for your leadership in my life today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
