    Best Thing Ever

    Read:

3 John 4 “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”

    Think:

What brings you genuine joy? Is it the prospect of your favorite team clinching a Super Bowl victory? Maybe it's the thrill of a Saturday golf game, crowned by the elusive achievement of a hole-in-one, or a peaceful spa day where responsibilities momentarily fade into the background. For John, it was a profound and heartfelt experience to witness his “children,” his godly legacy, following in the footsteps of Jesus. He joyfully proclaimed, "(They) are walking in truth."

“Walking in truth” means liking what God likes, and disliking what he dislikes (Rom. 12:9). It means we are willing to be conformed to him more and more each day (Rom. 8:29, 2 Cor. 3:18). It means living in accordance with God’s desires, commands and life path found in the Bible.

As parents, cultivating this path in our children is both a challenge and a calling. The Bible teaches us that it's a continuous practice, a way of life that we must not only teach but also demonstrate through our own actions. We walk alongside our children on this journey, imparting wisdom and values as we live them out together, nurturing their spiritual growth in the process.

    Apply:

Walking in truth is difficult. Cultivate the habit of daily storing his Word in your mind and heart. Train yourself to daily read and think on scripture. Have a daily prayer time when you tell Jesus your thoughts, concerns, worries – but also thank him.

    Pray:

Jesus, thank you for the gift of my children. Give me the grace and wisdom to stay close to you and your guidelines. Help me, as I parent, to focus on you and your Word, that I will lean into your guidance in the scriptures. In Jesus' name. Amen.
