    Authority Issues

Romans 13:2, "He who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves."

Psalm 91:2-4, "God, You're my refuge. I trust in You and I'm safe!' That's right - He rescues you from hidden traps, shields you from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you - under them, you're perfectly safe; His arms fend off all harm."

    Think

Imagine driving at rush hour with no traffic laws. There are no stop signs, traffic lights or speed limits. Without center stripes and lane markers, people decide for themselves which side of the road to drive on. Obviously, this would result in mass chaos, confusion, and countless crashes.

Traffic laws exist for our safety. Likewise, God has placed us under the authority of others for our protection and promotion. Authority brings order. Without it, we'd be on a constant collision course with others and accomplish nothing. That's why it's crucial for us to get under what God has put over us (even if we disagree or dislike the person) so we can get over what He's placed under us. However, this is sometimes easier said than done!

We all have authority issues. Disobedience is human nature. Nonetheless, God's Word clearly commands us to submit to all authority. If we don't, we'll face consequences. So, it all comes down to a matter of trust. If we trust God, then we trust that there's always a purpose for our placement. Keep this in mind as you go about your day with the goal of pleasing God!

    Act

Evaluate your attitude toward authority. Do you generally obey your leadership with a willing heart? What triggers rebellion within various aspects of your life? Talk to God about it and ask Him to help you identify any underlying issues that affect how you respond to authority.

    Pray

Dear Lord, thank You for Your constant protection and provision. I know that You have strategically placed specific people over and under me for my benefit. Therefore, help me to maintain a positive attitude toward my leadership knowing You always have my best interest in mind. And remind me of Your amazing grace as I interact with others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
