1 Peter 5:5-6,
"God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand that he may lift you up in due time."
Think
God stands in opposition to the proud – that person who thinks they are too sophisticated for God and believes they're superior to everyone else. Nothing could be worse than to have an infinitely powerful God opposing you. Want a piece of sound advice? Don't be proud! On the flip side God shows favor to the humble. Nothing could be better than to have an infinitely powerful God treating you graciously! The mighty hand of God is not there to crush you but to care for you and to put you in the place of honor at the proper time. From God's vantage point humility is the winning hand. Here's the spiritual truth to hang on to: When pride walks on the stage of your life, God walks off. But where God is, you will always find humility because humility follows God like a shadow. Loyalty and trust toward God are the heartbeat of humility, the very opposite of pride. When you place yourself in his hand, he will lift you up in his perfect timing.
Act
Write down every area that comes to mind where you believe yourself to be self-sufficient, not needing God. Once the list is complete, pray the prayer below.
Pray
Heavenly Father, I agree with Jesus when he said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." I confess that in the following areas (your list) I have believed I have no need for you. I repent of these and choose today to humble the totality of my life under your mighty hand. Amen.
