    A Quick Word On Obedience

    Posted on Sep 23, 2022 12:00:00 AM

    Read

Psalm 119:60, "I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands."

    Think

Consider the things you hurry to do. Maybe you hurry home to be with your family after a long day or you rush get to the gym and squeeze in that 30 minutes of cardio. Maybe you are quick to call back your best friend or eager to respond to your boss’s request. We rush to do what is important to us.

Now, consider the activities you put off completing. They could be simple chores around the house or mundane tasks at work. Essentially, we put off doing what we don't really want to do. This same habit can easily creep in when it comes to obeying God. The swiftness of our response to His commands – or lack of response – ultimately reveals our heart for God. And delayed obedience is disobedience!

The Message translation of today's verse says, "I was up at once, didn't drag my feet, was quick to follow your orders." This means QUICK obedience acknowledges the importance of God's authority. Is He the Lord of your life, or not? Are you relying on His wisdom and guidance or your own? Jesus said, "If you love me, obey my commands." So, whether God teaches you through prayer, Bible study, or a weekend message — be quick to do what God instructs you to do. By taking immediate action, you're not only revealing your heart for God; you're setting an example for others to do the same!

    Act

Ask God to bring to mind something you have been putting off that you know He has commanded you to do. It could be taking the next step in your faith by being baptized, extending forgiveness to someone, bringing the tithe, etc. Take your action step and be obedient right now!

    Pray

Lord, thank You for giving me new opportunities to be obedient to You today. I'm so grateful that I can count on You to lead me in every area of my life. Help me to be quick in my obedience to You, knowing that You are working for my good! Amen.
