"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7
Think
Facing temptation is an inescapable part of human existence. At times, the lures and traps set by the enemy may seem overwhelming, casting doubt on our ability to withstand. However, when we resist the devil, he will flee from us. This resistance is not a passive avoidance but an active stand against the pressures that seek to take us away from God's path.
But how do we resist? The answer lies in the first part of the verse: "Submit yourselves, then, to God." Resisting the devil starts with aligning our will with God's will, surrendering our desires, and allowing him to guide our decisions. It's like training in a spiritual gym, building our muscles through prayer, Scripture reading, and obedience to God.
Take the example of a seasoned athlete, always in training, always prepared for the match. Her commitment to exercise, discipline, and proper nutrition helps her face the competition with confidence. Similarly, our spiritual training prepares us for the battles we face, arming us with the strength and resilience needed to stand firm when temptations come our way.
You can have confidence in knowing that this is not a solo journey. We don't have to face our struggles alone. God's presence, along with the support of fellow believers, surrounds us, giving us the courage to resist the pressures that threaten to sway us.
