Hebrews 13:4, “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure…”
Anything worth having is worth working for. Whether it’s your dream car, your ideal job, or a new pair of shoes. And it goes without saying, that in order to acquire the things we desire, we must be willing to work hard, focus, and sacrifice. But, not only that, once we obtain the things we worked for, we need to take good care of them. We schedule regular maintenance, invest in ongoing training, make needed repairs, and refrain from doing anything reckless.
Like anything we value, but on a much larger scale, the covenant of marriage requires fine-tuning. A winning marriage doesn’t just happen, it too requires hard work, focus, and sacrifice, because it’s our most important earthly relationship. In marriage, we fight to protect one another and the vows we made before God. We schedule regular date nights, love unconditionally, forgive freely, encourage one another, and refrain from doing anything reckless. If we want marriages that others can look at and genuinely say, “I want what they have,” it’s worth the fight. For better or for worse, in sickness and in health, through thick and thin there are few things more rewarding on earth than a winning marriage.
Today, determine one additional thing that you can do to protect your marriage. Perhaps it is beginning your day reading these devotionals, scheduling that long-overdue date night, or praying together. After all, a prayer-covered marriage is truly a match made in heaven!
Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your protection and provision. Today, help me put in the work required for a winning marital relationship. And show me the best way to love my spouse. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
